Does anyone know whether shading the growing area under a tree by adjacent trees is not recommended because:
Shading reduces soil temperatures and inhibits truffle growth
or
Because direct solar radiation (UV) is a requirement for truffles
I ask as we're in a marginal climate (warm-hot) and would probably prefer to reduce soil tempratueres if possible by increasing plant density to promote shading (unless the reason was to allow for direct sunlight or UV in which case we would do it other ways like ground cover)

Hi Daniel, in France and Italy the ground has a natural cover of leaves and branches from the trees covering the growing truffles. So it is not a proven fact here yet as far as I know as to which is best for our climates. Trial and error in each area might be the call. But might help with calling Ian, or read his book and see what it says about shading, haven't read all the book yet. Fran.Posted 2 years ago #
